Claire is a partner in Gilbert + Tobin's Energy + Resources group.
Her expertise spans all aspects of resources projects from acquisition, structuring, financing and implementation to the on-going development, operation and then divestment of projects. As well as negotiating and documenting transactions, Claire provides advice on regulatory compliance and approvals, and tenure land access matters.
Claire has considerable multi-jurisdictional experience, having advised on projects in all states and territories of Australia as well as overseas in countries including Turkey, the Philippines, Fiji, Vanuatu, Pakistan and various African countries.
Claire has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Australia. She also has a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
Experience
Claire’s experience includes advising:
- Alinta Energy in relation to tenure, land access and approval matters generally, and in respect of their power transmission infrastructure in the Pilbara, Western Australia, including for the Roy Hill Project, including the termination of their State Agreement.
- Onslow Salt Pty Ltd on various tenure matters in and around the town of Onslow and related State Agreement issues.
- Advising a private company on tenure and land access matters for its dual stream mining and waste disposal business.
- Gold Fields Australia Pty Ltd in relation to the acquisition of a 50% interest in the Gruyere gold project from Gold Road Resources Limited and related joint venture and royalty arrangements and the subsequent restructuring of these arrangements.
- OZ Minerals Limited in relation to a farm-in and joint venture arrangement with a subsidiary of Cassini Resources Limited in respect of the West Musgrave project, Western Australia.
- Harmony Gold Operations Ltd with a series of sale arrangements under which Harmony divested its gold projects in Western Australia including the South Kal project, the Big Bell gold mine and the Mt Magnet gold mine. This involved a sale of various group entities, operating mines and a substantial land package involving minerals-to-owner land as well as Mining Act tenements.
- Mincor Resources NL, Independence Group NL and other listed nickel companies in their original acquisition of nickel interests in Kambalda, Western Australia from BHP Nickel West and on ongoing issues in relation to those assets. This involved sale and sub-lease arrangements over minerals-to-owner land, Mining Act and State agreement tenements, road and core access arrangements, water and power supply agreements and toll treatment arrangements.
- Evolution Mining Ltd on the Tennant Creek farm-in and joint venture with Emmerson Resources Ltd.
- Independence Group NL on the farm-in and joint venture arrangements with AngloGold Ashanti in relation to the Tropicana Gold Project in Western Australia and related matters.
- Southern Cross Goldfields Ltd on various acquisitions and divestments of assets in Western Australia involving a number of mineral sharing arrangements with multiple parties including Western Areas NL.
- Al Rawda Resources Limited on the acquisition of the Roper River iron ore project in the Northern Territory.
- Independence Group NL on the farm-in and joint venture arrangements with AngloGold Ashanti in relation to the Tropicana Gold Project in Western Australia and related matters.
